A glimpse into the landscape, and the cooking pot, of the Traisental valley

When you can’t tell whether you’re happier about the prospect of another glass or the view over the beautiful countryside, you must be in the Traisental valley.

The motto of the Traisental valley during Weinherbst could be, ‘Fresh on the table’. We were especially impressed by the combination of unforgettable views and fantastic culinary experiences. You can read why, below.

The exquisite Traisental valley: Our top tasting tips
Weinherbst in the Traisental valley means pleasure to the highest degree. For example, at the Nibelungenhof guest house, where top chef Rainer Melichar has perfected the art of preserving and serves his NaturSuccos, freshly pressed juices. Thanks to his homemade secret ingredient, he is able to give his dishes incredible flavour - all without artificial flavourings. At the Gasthof zum Jägerwirt we ate a more down-to-earth, but no less delicious, meal. With the best game in Stifts-Auen, the family business serves unparalleled Weinherbst menus. We also have two more TOP wine tavern tips for you: Fantastic pastries and breads, fresh fish and an enormous selection of wines await you at the Winzerhof Erber in an idyllic courtyard, while trendy winemakers and wine tavern Weinbau und Heurigen Dam offer outstanding wines and unbeatable locally produced fresh meat for fans of the protected wine tavern culture.

Be sure to try: Our producers’ top tips
Homemade tastes best. Traisental producers demonstrate this in the best possible way, for example the Weingut Huber vineyard. Delicious, alcohol-free drinks are available at the juice producers’ Säfte Preiß, where careful handling of hand-picked, ripe fruits produces generous flavour experiences. If you want to experience the concentrated power of the wine, then we recommend Gebiets-Vinothek Traismauer, where tastings with commentary are also available by appointment. Romantic, delicious, royal, modern: That’s how we would best describe the Schloss Walpersdorf with its castle concerts, brewery, the Gastro-Betrieb Balthasar a store of delights and interior store from Lederleitner HOME. Be sure to factor a stopover into your trip!

Especially for harvest season: Our secret highlights
Unforgettable views to the Danube can be enjoyed at the vineyard picnic which belongs to the winemaking family Schöller from Wagram, who pack delicious provisions such as bacon, pork sausages, spreads and, of course, wine and grape juice. Plenty of tasting is naturally followed by a good night’s sleep. Hence our overnight tip: Renaissancehof Kerschner with its idyllic inner courtyard, stately ambience and cosy atmosphere which fosters a sense of wellbeing. We would always come back.
