Auerberg

Mountain summit

Description

The 720 meter high Auerberg is located in the Rosalien Mountains in Lower Austria. 200 meters east of the summit already runs the border with Burgenland.

Location: Vienna Alps in Lower Austria, Rosalien Mountains, Hochwolkersdorf.

The Auerberg is located northeast of the Hochwolkersdorfer Rotte Hollerberg, southwest of the Forchtensteiner Rotte Rosalienhäuser in the municipality of Hochwolkersdorf. On the border with Burgenland, there is a 699 m high saddle, on which the federal road from Hochwolkersdorf to Forchtenstein runs. Neighboring mountains are the Heuberg (748 m) and the Hartlspitz (700 m).

The historically significant community of Hochwolkersdorf offers its visitors numerous sights. Many routes for hikers and cyclists are suitable for short vacations with the family in the middle of the Vienna Alps.

Tips:

  • Parish church Hochwolkersdorf
It can be historically proven that in 1203, where Hochwolkersdorf rises today, there was a chapel called Wolfkersdorf. According to legend, around 1329 the chapel was converted into a fortress with a rampart and moat.
  • Memorial room 1945
In Hochwolkersdorf the memorial room documents the events of April 1945, which led to the birth of the Second Republic. Dr. Karl Renner negotiated here in the Bucklige Welt with the Soviet commanders about the future of Austria.
