Cellar lane "Oagossn“ Falkenstein "
Cellar-lined roads
Description
A well-preserved, unusually colourful and lively Kellergasse called "Oagossn": it is also home to the Falkensteiner Berggericht, which has been synonymous with the quality of Falkenstein wines since the Middle Ages. In the Falkensteiner Kellergasse you will find Heurigen establishments, open cellar doors and a restaurant. Wine-related festivals and events such as the Berggerichtslauf, Kellergassenfest Wein-Kunst-Kultur and Weintaufe are popular with residents and tourists.
Guided tours of the Kellergassen are available from the beginning of April to the end of October every Wednesday at 4 pm, meeting point is the Alte Presse at the "Gmoakeller". Additional tours are possible at any time for groups of 8 or more by prior appointment on +43 (0)664/73 43 90 92.
The FalkArt association demonstrated "courage to fill gaps": deserted cellar rows were filled with life and art. In honour of the "Oagossn" (egg alley), an art object - "The Egg" - was installed by the renowned artist Sabine Müller-Funk: A glass egg mirrors the Kellergasse on its surfaces, and if you get involved, you can have a wonderful time playing with egg shape and surroundings on and between the glasses!
At the end of the Kellergasse, a rarity of a special kind has been created: a cellar museum under the motto "This is how it was in the old days" (visit by appointment).
A show cellar "Immerse yourself in the mysterious world of wine": cellar tube - old wooden barrels - cellar sponge - tartar - film about the work and pleasure of a winemaker throughout the year, is open daily from the end of March to the end of October from 9 am - 6 pm, wine purchase possible.
The wine hiking park "The Flight of the Falcon" also leads through the Kellergasse with its themed hiking trails: metal wings sit on limestones, printed with the stories and tales of the falcon, also available in English and Czech via smartphone!
