Freigut Thallern Wine Shop

Wines from the thermal region and from the sophisticated wine scene

The experience of visiting the wine shop in Freigut Thallern begins before you arrive. Barely a kilometre from Bundesstraße 50 at Guntramsdorf, you go through a viaduct and dive into another world. Even visitors, who are frequent visitors, were amazed about this unique site.

The wine shop is located in the centre of the second-oldest vineyard in Austria. The estate was given to the Order of Cistercians in the 1100s. Wine has been continuously produced here since 18 October 1141.

The buildings in Freigut have a long history. Following initiatives of the Polz family, a large part of the historic architecture ensemble was renovated and refreshed with sweat and passion. The wine shop with contemporary elements was built directly into the old wine cellar. Adjacent to it is the Prälatenstöckel, the former residence of the Meier family. Today, this area is used not just for wine presentations and tastings, but also for seminars. 

The winery and the wine shop are managed by Margareta and Erich Polz. The Polz family has leased the entire winery from the Heiligenkreuz monastery with the aim of creating a special wine, culinary and living experience. The wine shop has been open since 2011. The proximity to Baden, Mödling and Vienna makes the winery and in particular the [KE1] wine shop an attractive destination for many people.
