Description
The 1,400 meter high Große Sulzberg is the highest mountain of the Türnitz Alps in Lower Austria.
Location: Mostviertel, Türnitzer Alps, St. Aegyd im Neuwalde
On the partly tree-free ridge the panoramic view reaches from the Schneeberg over the Göller to the Gesäuse.
The Sulzberg is located north of the Hubertussee and just under 4 km south of the Annaberg. The municipal border of Sankt Aegyd am Neuwalde and the municipality of Annaberg follows the ridge of the Great Sulzberg, which runs in a west-east direction.
Paths to the Great Sulzberg
There is no marked trail leading to the top of the Großer Sulzberg, it is located away from larger settlements or traffic routes, therefore it is rarely climbed.
The easiest ascent is via forest roads and unmarked hunting trails. It takes about two hours to reach the summit from Fadental.
The ascents from the Am Säbel saddle in the west, or from Ulreichsberg in the east are longer, via hunting trails or only faintly recognizable paths.
In winter, the mountain is a popular destination for ski tourers and snowshoe hikers. Since most of the climb is in the forest, there is less danger of avalanches. The Fladen valley is also a good starting point for this.
