Jakobskogel (Rax)
Mountain summit
Description
The Jakobskogel is located at 1,736 m on the Lower Austrian side of the Rax not far from the Ottohaus and the mountain station of the Rax cable car. Due to the location and the unique 360° panorama, it is a popular hiking destination. Especially families and excursionists appreciate the Kogel for a quick summit climb.
From the cable car mountain station, you hike in about an hour and just under 200 altitude meters to the Ottohaus and then on to the Jakobskogel. The high alpine terrain makes for a varied and dreamlike hike, but requires surefootedness.
Numerous hiking routes, including those of the Hüttenhüpfen , lead over the Kogel:
- Hike up to the Jakobskogel
- From the mountain station of the Rax cable car to Preiner Gscheid
- To the Seehüte and over the Göbl-Kühn-Steig to the Preiner Gscheid
- Circular hike from the cable car to the Seehütte and back to the starting point
Special tip: Stay overnight in the Ottohaus and enjoy the sunrise during a short sunrise hike to the Jakobskogel (approx. 20 min).
