Krummbachstein
Mountain summit
Description
The Krummbachstein with its height of 1,602 meters is considered the highest elevation of the Gahn. It belongs to the Rax-Schneeberg group. It is only separated from the Schneeberg by the Krummbach saddle. From the summit of the Krummbachstein you have a beautiful view of the Schneeberg and the Höllental.
Location: Vienna Alps in Lower Austria, Rax-Schneeberg Group, Northern Limestone Alps, Reichenau an der Rax.
The foggy summit of the Krummbachstein, 500 meters away, is only slightly lower. Near the summit, at 1,568 meters above sea level, is the Alpenfreundehütte, built in 1909 and simply managed. It is the perfect starting point or stopover for a hike on the Krummbachstein. The hut is not accessible by car.
The approach to the Alpine Friends Hut is from the Schneebergbahn Baumgartner stop via the Schiblsteig in 1:30 h or via a longer approach from Payerbach, duration 4 h.
Hike to the Krummbachstein
A slightly further hike from Puchberg leads to the Krummbachstein and the Alpenfreundehütte. The tour can also be combined with a ride on the Schneebergbahn. The starting point is the Puchberg train station and the destination is the Alpenfreundehütte on the Krummbachstein. (Duration approx. 4 h)
