Tempelberg
Mountain summit
Description
A real sightseeing mountain is the Tempelberg, about 2 kilometers away from the Danube power plant Greifenstein. Greifenstein Castle is located at the foot of the 403-meter-high mountain. The 17-meter-high Tempelbergwarte is enthroned on its summit. From here, the panoramic view extends over the Vienna Woods and Weinviertel - and in good weather, as far as the Ötscher.
The easy-to-hike excursion mountain is surrounded by the villages of Greifenstein, Altenberg and Hadersfeld in the municipality of Sankt Andrä-Wördern. The summit can be reached from all sides - via well-marked, very moderate routes.

Family-friendly hikes to the Tempelberg
Numerous marked hiking trails lead to the Tempelberg - and are particularly suitable for families and pleasure hikers. You can start in Altenberg, Greifenstein and Wördern as well as in Kritzendorf or Höflein.
Good to know: The Tempelbergwarte was built in 1908 in honor of Emperor Franz Joseph I. In 1956, the observation tower was reopened after intensive renovation. There are 47 interior steps leading up to its upper viewing platform.
