Family-friendly biking
Lower Austria is full of extensive and diversified offers when mountain biking becomes a family sport.
Numerous bike parks, trail centres and a specially designed route of networks of the individual destination ensure that Lower Austria is a dream destination for mountain bike excursions for the whole family.
Conquering parks like the pros
The St. Corona am Wechsel adventure arena has its very own Mini-Bike Park with two routes for children – a 90 metre long conveyor belt takes the kids to the beginning of the trail. The rather flat route is suitable for children aged three and up and is to help improve with their balance. To the left, children aged five and over can descend down – faster passages and a small wooded area are one the first challenges that need to be conquered. And adequate refreshments for adults and children are served in the associated restaurant. Another Mini-Bike Park has been located in Annaberg since 2017. Pump track, skills track, flow line and skills line in various levels of difficulty ensure that beginners through to the professionals get their money’s worth. A pump track as well as a kids line, kids trail and fun line are located in the Trailcenter Hohe Wand Wiese in the Wienerwald, where there are special courses for children and beginners. At Bikepark Königsberg there is an 80 metre long pump track and a 135 metre technical trail for children, beginners and advanced – and a new tow back takes you uphill on a lift. A balanced mountain biking offer for families is also offered at the Leopark-Fun-Bikepark at Semmering. The 5,000 m² park leaves nothing to be desired for the children biking from traffic cone slaloms and target braking through to figure of 8 driving. Meanwhile, advanced bikers can show off their skills next door on the 100 metre long, moderately steep trails. If you don’t have the necessary equipment, don’t worry – all aforementioned locations have a bicycle rental on site.
Completely happy
Mountain biking with the family is not just possible in bike parks but also on the mountain bike routes in Lower Austria. For example on the Cycling for kids St. Peter an der Au MTB-route in Mostviertel for children aged six and over: You start at Plattenwirt, go past the Anthofer holiday camp and the Kaiser-Elisabeth-Warte (observation tower) and down into the woods on steep turns and jumps that are easy to overcome. Or from Lacknerhof to the biggest natural lake of Lower Austria, the Lunzer See. Furthermore, in the northern part of the Wienerwald, the 12 metre long Doktorberg-Strecke offers adequate mountain biking for the family and a particularly leisurely walk can be enjoyed in the Vienna Alps on the M. Dorfmeister-Strecke around Neusiedl. The Waldviertel is an extraordinary highlight for the whole team. Railway lines, once circled by steam locomotives, were turned into a wonderful, flat Rundradweg[circular cycle path], which can be comfortably cycled in several stages. Although these routes are generally designed for families, something can always happen. So pay attention to the packing list, wear knee-pads and elbow protectors and enjoy the mountain biking pleasure!
