From hut to hut on the Rax

The comfortable hut tour stands out thanks to fine food and marvellous views.

Up the Rax, and into the huts: If you want to walk through the diverse vegetation of the Rax, as well as spending some time relaxing, hut hopping is for you. There is no better way to enjoy the magnificent panorama.

Take the Rax aerial cableway to the Alpine garden

Travel on the oldest aerial cableway in Austria to the mountain inn Raxalpe, with its comfortable loungers on the panoramic terrace. A relaxing route through lush meadows leads to the next hut, the Ottohaus. The fragrant and colourful Alpine garden, which covers 4,000m2 and contains over 200 plant species which are typical to the region, awaits you. A real highlight!

Promising cuisine in the Neue Seehütte

By crossing the green Alpine meadows, you will reach the Neue Seehütte, an organic certified hut. It is known far beyond the Viennese Alps for its strudel, but the roast pork from the wood stove and the seasonal game, direct from the Rax, are not to be missed. Incidentally, the far-ranging view is at least just as good. Don’t forget to pack your camera!

From the summit cross to the sun loungers

Feeling re-invigorated, the hike continues to the Preiner Wand cross, on the highest peak of the route. The panoramic resting place offers breathtaking views from Luckerte Wand to Bucklige Welt. Passing through fragrant mountain pine woods, you will pass the Ottohaus again, and head back to the sun loungers at the mountain inn Raxalpe, and the Rax aerial cableway.
