The Biedermeier Alps
The Gutensteiner Alps (elevation 1,399 m) look like a landscape by Friedrich Gauermann, the well-known 19th c painter from the Biedermeier era. Nestled idyllically between Schneeberg and the Vienna Basin, this range is home to Austria’s most heavily wooded district.
Art and nature
The Gauermann Museum in Miesenbach is well worth a visit especially for its art, but also for its special events. Along with many works by the landscape painter Friedrich Gauermann, museum visitors can also admire exhibitions of contemporary artists. Our non-art highlight: the annual Herb Festival.
