A century ago, dashing station masters stood on the platform and brought huge steam-powered engines of the Mariazell Railroad (Mariazellerbahn) to a standstill with one blow of their whistle. Today there are family-friendly holiday apartments in the same spot. Enjoy an old-time railroad – in the midst of scenic Ötscher Land.

Imagine that a humongous train draws up right in front of your room instead of a car - and picks you up for grand adventures. Or then takes you directly home again. While other passengers still have a ways to go, you simply hop off the train and walk into the train station – because that is where you are staying.
Of course, you have more than just tracks in front of your door. You also have your own garden with herbs, vegetables and a meadow where you can play – plus a grilling site and even an extra campfire site. And beyond that, the choice is yours: Would you like to hike down into a deep, wild canyon, Ötschergräben, – or would you prefer climbing up a mountain? Geocoaching and nature guides included.
After narrow-gage train rides and hiking, how about some horseback riding? There are so many nice horses in the neighborhood that are more than happy to have you ride them. Schaglhof is an equestrian farm that breeds Haflinger horses. The gentle mares are ideal for learning how to ride and there are plenty of cute colts.
