Hut with a view
For excursion, hike, or weekend getaway, the Lower Austrian Alps offer great prospects – lookout points from Semmering and Rax to Schneeberg.
Alpine huts between Semmering and Ötscher await their visitors with grand views of the countryside. To get distant views of the scenic Alps any time of the year, you can hike or, a bit more conveniently, ride up on an aerial cableway and lift.

Room with a view
The Rax aerial cableway goes directly to Raxalpen-Berggasthof. Every day cares stay in the valley – even overnight if desired. Terzerhaus at Gemeindealpe is ideal for alpine getaways, with a view of the Mariazell region and a lift almost to its front door. Edelweisshütte on Schneeberg: The view extends to Neusiedlersee and a good nights’ rest is assured.
Other alpine huts with long-distant views
- Neue Seehütte on Rax can be reached on foot or aerial cableway – with a view of the Vienna Alps plus pork roast cooked in a wood-burning oven.
- JoSchi Berghaus on Hochkar is another scenic choice and Austria’s highest-elevation pizzeria.
- Anna-Alm in Annaberg is known as an exceptionally scenic vantage point: The Ötscher region in all its grandeur lies at visitors’ feet all year long.
- Another tip for long-distance views is Millenniumswarte, a lookout tower on Hirschenkogel that is the highest point on Semmering.
- And the lookout tower on Hohe Wand is also worth climbing: with a view of Schneeberg and the Vienna Woods.
