Route information

  • A branch line of the Waldviertelbahn runs from Alt-Nagelberg to Heidenreichstein. The Wackelsteinexpress travels along this tranquil route and passes the Heidenreichstein Moormuseum station shortly before the terminus. The nostalgia express is operated by the Waldviertler Schmalspurbahn Verein (Waldviertel Narrow-Gauge Railway Association) and offers year-round experiences and very personal special trips.

Heidenreichstein Moor Nature Park

The tranquil moorlands in the Heidenreichstein Nature Park bring out the beauty of their natural surroundings at any time of year and invite you to take an extensive walk. You are also welcome to take a pushchair, as many of the paths are well surfaced, and older children can let off steam at the local playground.

Moor museum

Not far from the Heidenreichstein Moor Museum stop, the House of the Moor displays a unique collection of exhibits and information on the origin and development of the moor and peat landscapes of Central Europe. During a guided tour by appointment you will get an insight into the regional flora and fauna, as well as the opportunity to visit the furnished rock collection.
