Station Breiteneich
Train stationDescription
The simple station Breiteneich near Horn in the village of the same name is located on the edge of the Horn basin. The station is connected to the rail network of the Kamptalbahn and thus represents the two stops of the municipality next to the station Horn. The bus station in Breiteneich can be reached on foot in 5 minutes.
As inconspicuous as the train stop in Breiteneich may appear, the impressive Breiteneich Castle is all the more imposing not far from the station. First mentioned in a document in 1223, there have been numerous changes of ownership of the noble Renaissance castle over the years. Even today the building is privately owned.
History
The scenic route of the Kamptal Railway, whose construction is credited to the successful efforts of the communities located in the Kamptal, was opened in 1889 with the first journey from Sigmundsherberg to Hadersdorf am Kamp. For the villages along the Kamp this meant an enormous economic upswing, as it not only made it possible to transport products from agriculture and winegrowing to Vienna, but it also led to the so-called "Reiselust" of summer retreats and thus to an important basis for tourism in this region.
