History
The construction of the planned line from St. Pölten to Leobersdorf, the former Leobersdorferbahn, offered the opportunity to promote the economy in the region by means of freight traffic. Companies located there were to be connected to a high-capacity railway network, and a cost-covering return was already achieved in the first few years.
Passenger traffic on the line was never given much importance. However, due to long overdue modernisation of the line, this had to be extended in 2001 to the line from
St. Pölten to Hainfeld had to be shortened.
