Train stationDescription
The friendly waiting house at Gobelsburg station in the municipality of Langenlois offers shelter in wind and weather on the single-track platform along the route of the Kamptalbahn.
If you stop off in Gobelsburg and are looking for a cosy Heurigen with regional wines and culinary delicacies from the area, you will be spoilt for choice, as here one palate-pleasing cellar meets the next culinary pleasure garden, and all within easy walking distance.
The resident Gobelsburg Castle is a listed building. After renovation work was completed in 1966, it served as a branch of the Austrian Museum of Folklore until the end of the 20th century and is now also run as a winery with its vineyards, which not only impresses with delicious wines but also with its atmospheric ambience. It is a good 5 minute walk from the Gobelsburg train station.
With a view
In the south of Gobelsburg is the lookout tower on the Gobelsberg and can be reached in a good 30 minutes directly after getting off the train at the station. Once you have reached the lookout tower, you can enjoy a fantastic panoramic view over the Danube valley and, in good weather, as far as the foothills of the Alps.
History
Gobelsburg also became a summer resort with the construction of the Kamptal railway line. Due to the more comfortable accessibility, more and more city dwellers enjoyed the recreation and relaxation of the enchanting nature along the Kamp and several summer resort villas were built in Gobelsburg. Due to changes in travel habits after 1945 and the drop in temperature due to the Kamptal reservoirs, it was no longer possible to continue the tradition of that time and so the Kamptal was deprived of an important basis for tourism.
