Description
Das modern gestaltete Schifffahrtsmuseum im Schloss Erlahof informiert über die Geschichte der Schifffahrt.
The modernly designed Maritime Museum in Erlahof Castle provides information about the history of shipping.
In the modernly designed Navigation Museum in the Erlahof Castle you can learn about the history of navigation. The museum offers a large selection of original objects from the heyday of wooden navigation and rafting. Navigation on the Danube existed long before our era. For the Romans, the Danube was a border river against the peoples in the north; in the Middle Ages, the Bavarian-Austrian Danube region formed the center of East-West trade. Before the introduction of steamships around the middle of the 19th century, ships and rafts were built exclusively of wood. The precisely built models are presented in modern glass showcases in the old vaulted rooms.
Audio and video stations are also available to visitors for information on Danube navigation.
