Cuisine with views over gentle alpine Mostviertel
If the sun is reflecting in the crystal clear water, glowing high up in the sky and kissing the fruit trees, then Mostviertel's warm months have arrived.
The alpine Mostviertel is always worth a look. But the breezy heights, cool lakes and diverse menus are highly enticing in summer. Take a JUST ENJOY tour and explore the region around Lunz am See, the Hochkar mountain and Gaming.
Like a fish to water: Our local tips
The fascinating Mostviertel is a unique contrast to its wild, gentle landscapes, uniting with a magnificent ensemble in the saucepans of the hosts. One example being in the Hotel Fahrnberger in Göstling, the gateway to the Mendlingtal. House specialities derive from the Ybbstaler trout which is most commonly served in the stunning garden restaurant at the foot of the Hochkar mountains with selected Mostviertl perry. Our tip: Take a break in the on-site spa and an overnight stay is essential. Why? Read on. Something further along the way, right next to the Lunz lake, is a restaurant with access to the lake: the lake terrace. It lives up to its name; with a large covered terrace that is particularly when delightful accompanied by a fish soup or fillet of Lunz char on the table. The day is finished off with a boat trip across the lake.
Flying high: Our trip tips
We discovered a particularly special beer factory between Gaming and Lunz am See. The brewery, Erzbräu Bruckner, creates beer rich in vitamins and minerals in Grubberg at 725m above sea level - all without pasteurisation and additives. We think the "G’stachelte Bier” is particularly tasty. One thing you just shouldn't miss out on is a hike through Mendlingtal Adventure World. Marvel at the Holztriftanlage (construction where wood is transported on water), the Blacksmith's Inn, the Venetian saw, old mills and - as a perfect reward after the tour - the cosy "Hammerherrenhaus" snack bar. If anybody wants to go higher still, then they will be enthralled by the spectacular 360° Skytour am Hochkar. Waiting here are a suspension bridge, the viewing platform at a height of 120m and, undoubtedly, a breathtaking panoramic view into the distant countryside.
Once and ever more: Our accommodation tips
One day just isn't enough for such a big agenda. That is why we also have two Genießerzimmer options that will leave you in awe. The Hinterbreiteneben holiday home, for example, sits in the middle of a vast flower meadow in an completely dreamy and relaxed location with a view of the mountains. You can even admire it from the panoramic sauna or when in the hot tub, before retiring into the ruins from centuries before, where there is nothing left to be desired. You may not have known that food in the Hotel Fahrnberger is incredible, but now you do. You might not yet know that, on top of everything else, you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Ötscher in a 4**** Genießerzimmer and many thrilling cycle and hiking routes begin here.
