Description

The name Flatzer Wand describes a rocky outcrop of the mountain Auf der Kehr. However, the name Flatzer Wand is also used as a name for the entire mountain, whose summit is the forested Auf der Kehr at 790 meters above sea level.

The Flatzer Wand, in the Sierningtal-Flatzer Wand Nature Park, is a highly fissured wall abyss on the southern slope of the Auf der Kehr. It somewhat resembles the well-known Hohe Wand.

Trails on and around the Flatzer Wand

The Flatzer Wand is a well-developed climbing area with a dozen via ferrata routes in difficulties 0 to D and over 100 climbing routes up to about difficulty grade IX. The most famous climbs from west to east:

  • E60 (C/D)
  • Ternitzersteig (A)
  • Flatzerlochsteig (A/B)
  • Fürststeig (A)
  • Jubiläumssteig (A/B)

One of the most beautiful, of the very easy climbing routes in the foothills of the Alps leads to the Flatzer Wand, the historic double climb in difficulty grade II.

From the center of Flatz, a hike of about one hour leads to the Neunkirchner Haus on the Flatzer Wand. The hut is located at 758 meters above sea level and is managed all year round on weekends. In addition to hiking trails, the 16 km² nature reserve also features mountain bike trails, children's playgrounds, animal enclosures, ponds and over 300 resting places, as well as a lookout station.

The Flatzer Wand is also rich in caves. The most famous is the Flazter Dripstone Cave.
