Hochkogel
Mountain summit
Description
The friendly Hochkogel in Randegg is considered a popular excursion mountain for young and old. Its summit at 711 meters is the highest of the Gamsstein, a mountain massif in the Ybbstaler Alps. At the Hochkogel not only a summit cross welcomes the hikers. Rather, a magnificent all-round view of Ötscher, Dürrenstein, Hochkar and over the Danube valley into the Waldviertel awaits.
Directly at the summit, the family-friendly Panoramastüberl Hochkogel serves Mostviertel specialties and hut classics. Not for nothing is the dedicated host couple Vera and Wolfgang Resch pleased about a "Tut Gut-Wirt" award. Two kilometers further on, the Almhaus Hochkogel awaits its guests: hikers sometimes encounter happy calves in mother-cow husbandry on the Hochkogel pasture.
Seasonal festivals are regularly celebrated on the mountain - from the Mostblüten hiking day to the summer solstice. Especially nice (not only) for families is also the well-known picnic area at the Hochkogel.
