Kollmitzberg
Mountain summit, Scenic lookout
Description
Kollmitzberg is located in the market town of Ardagger on the Moststraße and - despite the manageable altitude of 469 m - is considered one of the most beautiful vantage points far and wide.
Pilgrims, hikers, cyclists and nature lovers enjoy an almost unobstructed view in all directions - from the Schneeberg to the Traunstein and over the Danube country far into the Bohemian massif. During the blossoming of the Mostviertel pear trees in spring, a cycling tour on the Kollmitzberg cycling route is especially recommended.
The pilgrimage church of St. Ottilie on Kollmitzberg, visible from afar, was first mentioned in 1260 and has been a popular pilgrimage site since the Middle Ages. The "Ottilienwasser", which rises not far from the church, has always been attributed healing properties.
Kollmitzberg is known beyond the borders of the country, especially for its annual Kirtag. With around 300 exhibitors and 30,000 visitors, the Kollmitzberg Kirtag is one of the largest events of its kind in all of Austria.
