Oisberg

Mountain summit

Description

The Oisberg also called Bauernboden, is a 1,405 meter high mountain in the Mostviertel in Lower Austria. On its summit there is a summit cross.

Location: Lower Austria, Mostviertel, Ybbstaler Alps, Northern Limestone Alps.

The Oisberg is located on the territory of three municipalities: Hollenstein an der Ybbs, Opponitz and St. Georgen am Reith.

Its forested ridge stretches over new kilometers in length. Elevations on the main ridge are Hahnköpfl (1,224m), Glitzenkopf (1,328m), Rotmauer (1,330m), Schneekogel (1,373m), Kleiner Schneekogel (1,344m), and Hühnerkogel (1,345m), the ridge ends at Kothaufenberg (1,000m).

The forests on the Oisberg are largely used for forestry, so the mountain is crisscrossed by many forest roads. There are alpine pastures in the eastern part of the Oisberg, in the ridge area and north of it where the Annahütte is located.

Hike to the Bauernboden

Starting from the Lucken farmhouse in Opponitz, the hiking tour leads to the Bauernboden. Up to the Buchberg farmhouse it goes on a forest path. Then we change to a hunter's path and through steeper terrain and a beautiful mixed forest the path leads to the alpine pasture at the Annahütte, from there we continue to the Schneekogel, the highest point of this tour. (duration approx. 3 h)

Tips in the surroundings

  • In the river bath in Hollenstein an der Ybbs, guests can swim in the crystal-clear waters of the Ybbs. For the little visitors there is a children's area for splashing. Snacks and ice cream are offered at the beach buffet.
