Otter, Beaver & Co.!

Animals by and in the water: Excursion to otters, beavers, turtles and herons in Lower Austria - from the UnterWasserReich Schrems to the Danube floodplains in Orth.

Swimmers, divers, anglers, hunters: Fascinating representatives of the animal world on and in the water wait to be explored - from cute otters to tadpole shrimp.

Diving, feeding, swimming, playing: the otters have a lot to do in their outdoor enclosure! Not UnterWasserReich only do long-term tenants live in the Hochmoor Schrems Nature Park - otter foundlings are also temporarily taken in and lovingly raised here. By the way: The feeding of the lively otters three times a day is of course a highlight for visitors and can be booked online.

Frogs, dragonflies and snakes can also be seen in Schrems – the water garden shows them in their natural habitat in the wetlands of the Waldviertel.

Animals in the Au

Otters, beavers and around 30 other mammals are also at home in the Donau-Auen National Park: The largest intact floodplain landscape in Central Europe is also home to around 100 species of birds as well as numerous fish, reptiles and amphibians. Crabs and mussels, pond turtles, frogs and snakes live here completely undisturbed. The exciting Au landscape can be discovered on guided tours or on independent hikes and bike trips.
