Up the Rax by cable car
Raxalpe is just the place for people interested in doing more than just skiing in the winter. The fastest way of ascending the 1,500m to the Rax mountain station is with an 8-minute journey on the Rax-Seilbahn, the oldest cableway in Austria, which is now looking its best once again, following extensive renovation work which was completed in July 2016.
Enjoy the winter wonderland
Discover new paths and get enchanted by the beautiful winter wonderland! Everything you need is winter-suitable, high hiking boots and weather-resistant clothing. You can rent your snow shoes directly on the Rax at the Raxalm-Berggasthof restaurant next to the cableway station. From here, you can choose between three routes, information material is available for free.

Our licensed snowshoe guides accompany you, safely and effortlessly. So you will experience the wintry beauty of the Raxalpe. Guided tours can be booked at the Raxalpenhof hotel in Prein, close to Reichenau.
Many paths lead to the Rax
If you want to reach the west side of the Rax you can easily hike from the Preiner Gscheid Pass to the Waxriegelhaus hut in good weather conditions. Or you hire a sledge at the hotel Raxalpenhof in Reichenau / Prein and sleddge down from the Waxriegelhaus hut back to the carpark at the Preiner Gscheid Pass. It is great fun – don’t miss it!
