Schneeberg
The highest mountain in Lower Austria enchants families and experienced hikers alike. It is no wonder. It has tours for alpinists of all skill levels.
Schneeberg enchants visitors with its wonderful views and varied system of trails that offers just the right tour for every taste. The easiest ascent is on the Schneeberg Railroad (Schneebergbahn) to Austria’s highest-elevation station.
Royal audience
The King of the Alps rises 2,076 m above sea level and has Austria’s highest station (elevation 1,797 m). The Salamander or an old-time steam engine of the Schneeberg Railroads (Schneebergbahnen) offers comfortable, scenic rides to the top. On arrival, choose from stunning panoramas for hikes and walks!
Sports for the brain
VOKA Gallery and Studio (Galerie-Atelier VOKA) is just the place to go to spur your mind and your circulation. The founder of Spontaneous Realism displays his works there. Another hit is TOP ART 1800, Austria’s highest-elevation gallery at the top station of the Salamander. You can look forward to resting on Enzo benches there after your ascent.
A mountain for all
From easy stroll to rigorous hike, Schneeberg has something for all levels of difficulty. Experienced hikers will be just as happy here as families on a Sunday outing. Our tip: The medium-difficult Cog Railroad Trail (Zahnradbahnwanderweg) or a scenic plateau hike on Hochschneeberg.
