Traisental cycle route
From mild to wild, from breathtaking to delicious – The perfect tour is guaranteed for pleasure cyclists and families.
The pleasant and flat Traisental cycle route connects St. Pölten and Mariazell via idyllic terraced vineyards and vast fields. Connoisseurs cycle along the Traisen, passing through Wilhelmsburg, Lillienfeld, Hohenberg, St. Aegyd, and Kernhof, where several attractions await them.
Perfect for families!
111 pleasant kilometres, divided into 4 stages, await families and pleasure cyclists on the Traisental cycle route. The most pleasant is the Danube – St. Aegyd stage, especially the downstream section. The stretch between St. Aegyd and Mariazell is more strenuous. Because of this, several idyllic spots along the Traisen invite cyclists to rest and splash around. It is also really comfortable. This is especially so if you decide to take one of the many opportunities to board a bus or a train. By the way... Almost the entire route is off-road, on well-paved and signposted cycle paths. Our tip: Make sure you stop at Herzogenburg Abbey, or at the first Camel Theatre and White Zoo (Kameltheater Kernhof mit weißem Zoo).
A good excuse for a break around every corner
On the Traisental cycle route, diligent cyclists can enjoy the lush Mostviertel countryside and snack on regional delicacies. Our tip: Work your way through the menus, starting with a glass of fresh, locally-produced fruit juice, Lilienfelder-Voralpen-Wild, and finishing with a lightly spiced variation of the traditional “Trainsentaler Hofkas” for dessert (The name “Hofkas” describes the traditional manual method of processing milk into valuable cheese products on farms in St. Pölten, Wilhelmsburg and Eschenau. Traisentaler Hofkas – which is known as the “Genussregion” (region of enjoyment) – therefore offers a variety of cheeses, including fresh, soft, and hard.)
