Bacchus would have been thrilled: The Romans and their favourite drink!
Following the footsteps of the Romans and wine producers, you can hike through the wine-producing region of Carnuntum. It shares its name with a Roman settlement in the same area, which was excavated, and in which artefacts were found. The 910 hectare wine-producing area between Vienna and Bratislava is best known for its powerful, ripe red wines. The newcomer among the wine-producing regions convinces with Blauer Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch wines, closely followed by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Strong white tines, such as the Grüner Veltliner, Burgundy varieties and Gemischter Satz can be found here. Our tip: If you are looking for fine wines, we recommend sticking to “Rubin Carnuntum” wines. Dedicated winemakers have come together under the sign of the “Heidentor” (Pagans’ Gate) and developed a regional quality mark.
