Window to Ötscher
In Annaberg in Lower Austria you can look forward to hiking to Anna-Alm, the alpine hut with a view of Ötscher, plus plenty of action either sledding or horseback riding.
The Annaberg region may belong to downhill and cross country skiers in the winter but every other season of the year it is a true hikers’ paradise. Routes to Anna-Alm range from family-friendly to challenging. The views extend all the way to Ötscher.
Anna-Alm on Hennesteck rewards its visitors with views of Ötscher, Hochschwab and Dürrenstein. It is one of Lower Austria’s most lovely alpine huts and is situated on one of the most scenic spots in the Ötscher region. To reach it from Annaberg, hikers have to cover 1,335 m in altitude. Tip: About 20 minutes from Anna-Alm is the Stadleralm “gourmet hut”, where getaway holidaymakers are always welcome.
From good vistas to the fairest in the land
Besides the tour to Hennesteck, the scenic hike over Tirolerkogel to Türnitz is highly recommended. Many exciting hiking routes lead through Ötscher-Tormäuer Nature Park with its rich flora and fauna. The route through Ötschergräben, the Austrian Grand Canyon, is spectacularly scenic. This tour is considered “the fairest in the land”. By the way, mountain railways offer a comfortable and convenient way to the summit.
Climbing, sledding, taking up the reins!
The Ötscher region is a tip not just for hikers. The Wienerbruck high rope course offers exciting adrenalin-charged fun while the alpine coasters at Eibl-Jet whiz down the thrilling curvy downhill course. Schaglhof has Haflingers just waiting for horseback-riding in the green Mostviertel.
