Young wines and old recipes: Wine autumn in Vienna Woods

Wine autumn makes the Vienna Woods particularly colourful. Countless tastings, fabulous parties and open cellar tours invite you to stay.

During wine autumn, Vienna Woods is a wonderful location from which to enjoy the landscape, the people and, most of all, delicacies. Read about why you’ll come across llamas here, and where “the longest bar in the world” is located.

A flavour fest in the Vienna Woods: Our top tasting tips
In autumn in the Vienna Woods, even the menus become more colourful. The seasonality is especially celebrated at Hawlik’s Schlemmereck restaurant and regional vinotheque, where from March to November, always on the last Saturday of the month, the winetasting menus take centre stage - entirely in keeping with Weinherbst. Special wines from the region are presented on the creative, down-to-earth 5-course menu. Our tip: Make a reservation now! There’s organic and vegan fare at the Landauer-Gisperg vineyard. Members of the innovative Burgundy producer team produce not only juices but also wines in absolute harmony with nature. Unusual seasonal delicacies await at the wine taverns, which magic the Weinherbst on to the palate. We particularly enjoyed ourselves at the picnic in the reeds.

1 tip, 1,000 flavours: Our producers’ tip
You can buy perfect delicacies off the Weinherbst menu to take home with you from the vineyard with its farm shop Hofladen Weingut Dachauer in wonderful Tattendorf. We loaded ourselves up with the best house wines, wonderful apple chilli and balsamic onion chutneys, fantastic liqueurs and homemade mustard. Our tip: Take home the largest hamper you can find.

Llamas and wines: Our secret highlights
How best to explore the Vienna Woods which shimmers red, yellow, brown and gold during the Weinherbst festival? We recommend llama trekking! We heartily recommend this fantastic experience and encourage everyone to book an individually organised Lama-Wanderung or ‘llama walk’ on the Llama Ranch. Fewer llamas, but more wine, awaits you on the wonderful guided wine walk through the Badener Hauer Vinothek, which, on Open Cellar days in Gumpoldskirchen invites you to try abundant flavours from the new vintage. Before we say “Cheers!” and bid you farewell, just one last overnight tip, the Weinpension Andrea in Sooß, where you can dream peacefully in its Zweigelt or Chardonnay rooms.
